Why a diary isn’t enough

The meal that matters is rarely the last one.

Food takes somewhere between 12 and 72 hours to pass through. So when a morning goes wrong, the answer could be last night’s dinner or Tuesday’s lunch. A paper food diary asks you to write everything down, then leaves the maths to you.

GutPut keeps the record and does the maths.

How it works

Just talk. The AI keeps the log.

1 · → IN

Say what went in.

Chat to it like you’d text a friend who keeps very good records: “flat white and a chocolate brownie”, or a photo of your plate. GutPut’s AI lists the ingredients, tags the common trigger groups — dairy, gluten, caffeine, high fat — and tells you what it assumed. Nothing is logged until you approve it.

Assumed whole milk in the flat white. Say so if not.

2 · OUT →

Log what came out.

One tap on the Bristol Stool Scale, type 1 to 7 — the same scale doctors use. Or just say it: “just went, type 6”.

3 · IN → OUT

See the pattern.

Once there is enough data, GutPut’s AI looks back across the 12 to 72 hours before each bad movement and tells you what keeps turning up. It gives you the numbers, how sure it is, and how small the sample is.

PATTERN · SUSPECTEDMODERATE

It happened on 5 of the 7 evenings you had dairy after six. On the 9 evenings without, once. That’s a real difference, but seven evenings is a small sample.

What it won’t do

Patterns, not diagnoses.

GutPut isn’t a doctor and doesn’t act like one. It tells you what it sees in your own log, with the numbers behind it — patterns you might discuss with a doctor or dietitian.

Who it’s for

For anyone whose gut has opinions.

Living with IBS, testing a suspected food intolerance, or just tired of mornings that go wrong for no obvious reason. GutPut keeps the food and symptom diary you’d otherwise have to keep yourself.

It doesn’t diagnose IBS, intolerances or anything else. It shows you your own data, clearly enough to act on or take to an appointment.

Private by design

Your log is health data. It’s treated that way.

Questions

Questions people ask.

What is GutPut?

An AI food and bowel movement diary for iPhone and Android. You chat to it about what you ate, in words or photos, and log your movements on the Bristol Stool Scale. Over time it shows which foods tend to come before a bad day.

How is it different from a food diary?

A food diary records. GutPut’s AI also reads the record. It breaks meals into ingredients, lines them up against your movements 12 to 72 hours later, and tells you what keeps turning up, with the numbers.

What AI does GutPut use?

Claude, a model made by Anthropic, running on Amazon Bedrock in the EU. It reads your messages and food photos and turns them into entries. Amazon Bedrock doesn’t use what you send to train models.

What is the Bristol Stool Scale?

A seven-point chart that describes stools by shape and consistency, from type 1 (hard lumps) to type 7 (watery). Types 3 and 4 are considered normal. Doctors use it, which is why GutPut does.

Why does it look back 12 to 72 hours?

That’s roughly how long food takes to pass through. The meal behind a bad morning is often not the last one you ate.

How long before GutPut finds a pattern?

It depends how often you log and how often bad days happen. GutPut won’t suggest a pattern until there’s enough data behind it, and it always says how many days it’s based on.

Does GutPut diagnose IBS or food intolerances?

No. GutPut is not a medical device. It shows patterns in your own log that you might discuss with a doctor or dietitian.

Where is my data stored?

In the EU. Your entries, and the AI that reads them, stay in EU data centres. Food photos are never stored at all.

What emails will GutPut send me?

Only sign-in codes. Each one contains a 6-digit code that expires after 10 minutes and works once. No newsletters, no marketing, nothing about your health.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. Delete your account from the app’s settings and everything in it is deleted.

When can I get it?

GutPut is coming soon to iPhone and Android.
